I’m so exited to have found your work Charlie! It was gorgeous to listen to the blackbird and your words this morning. I am reminded of a talk by David Haskell that I went to a few weeks ago all about trying to understand the natural world better through our ears. I’d love to learn my local bird song better and am really looking forward to more of your work. Cheers!
I love these posts Charlie, and I’ve loved listening in to this one with the the birds songing before, beside and between your words. Thank you for sharing. 💛
Thank you Emily, I’m glad this works for you! I realise now that most things that be improved with a little Blackbird song in the background. Thanks for your kind words and support this past year. 🙂
An English country garden in summer, that is where this takes me, a place I've grown up in, that every cell of me knows. What wonder it is, the effect of birdsong on the body. An instant calm. Thank you, Charlie. This is my favourite new account.
I got a bird feeder last year...I spent ages trying to find one that wouldn't just feed the squirrels. Well, this one is great and the songbirds lift me daily. But hearing their song and learning is also just incredible, so thank you.
I’m from the US and lived in London for a couple of months, which is when I fell in love with the beautiful song of blackbirds. Whenever I heard them I stopped in my tracks to seek them out and listen. I think part of my instant affection is that their slurred whistling sounds a bit like American Robins, also in the thrush family. 🖤
An American Robin turned up near here, on the Sussex coast, a couple of years ago. I didn't hear it sing (I'm not sure it was inclined to), but in many ways it behaved like a Blackbird, and was often to be seen hopping around with them.
One of my resolutions this year is to learn a few more by song. The blackbird is one of my all time favourite sounds in summer. Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to learning from you.

Glad to hear that Sarah! I must look up David Haskell’s latest book. And I hope you find the posts here helpful through the spring.

Thank you Eleanor, that’s very kind. I believe Blackbird song works on a cellular level for me too. The best.
This is so cool. I used to listen to a CD of nothing but bird songs. Now I can find it here, thank you!
Happy to help, enjoy the birds!

Great, thanks. I whistle to birds, tsk, tsk to squirrels meow to cats, bark to dogs. (and sometimes do all this to people)
Carrying conversations.

Thanks Thomas, an excellent resolution. Any species in particular? Hope this will be of help during the spring.
