I wake each day with barn owls 🦉 on my creek. This morning I had two calling at my house. They mostly call to each other up and down the creek but this morning they were at the house. I have been feeding the wild birds, so maybe they’re there trying to get the rabbits that are eating the birdseed on the ground.
I’m used to them. It’s pretty cool when you can make Bobwhite quail calls and call them up out ofthe Creek. I have a nice little wildlife sanctuary here on the creek. There’s 160 acres and there’s a creek that runs through the middle of it with five tributaries here in Western Oklahoma. There’s quite a few birds that migrate through here so I always try to keep feed out for them and the local birds
Thanks for this post Charlie. I hold a special place for Little Owls. As a kid on one of the families regular visits to the Yorkshire Dales I once stumbled upon 3(!) - I now presume juvenile - Little Owls perched in a row on a wooden fence in broad daylight. Who doesn’t live any raptor, but as a result of this encounter Little Owls have always been a favourite.
Thanks Mark. That’s an encounter that would stick with you! How absolutely marvellous. Coincidentally, the calls played in this post were recorded in Yorkshire.

What a sound to wake up to - a bit unnerving too…?

That call is the cutest of all the owls! I’ve listened to it multiple times in a row and still don’t have enough of it. I love it!
Isn’t it great?
It really is. It’s so adorable!
Thank you! Love the owls...
