We have a nuthatch that frequents the garden and I often see it from the bedroom window hopping about on the aviary. And earlier this week I was lucky enough to spot one flitting up a tree along the lane walking the dogs. I watched it for a fair while flitting up the trunk until it disappeared out of sight in the ivy. I also managed to get some wonderful footage of a pair of nuthatchs feeding their chicks in a bird box at Itchen Valley Country park a few years ago. They seemed completely unconcerned by their proximity to a children’s playground and the little woodland cafe. It was delightful!

Excellent post. There are plenty of Nuthatches in Edinburgh these days, a total contrast to when I first moved here and there were none. I was watching and listening to one yesterday as it stood at the top of a tree, calling.

Another great post Charlie - love the notion of the woodpecker and the kingfisher - totally works! We have nuthatches around us here in Muswell Hill. There’s been a pair attempting to nest in the same hole in a tree by Alexandra Palace’s boating lake for the past two years, but with no joy. Maybe this year will be third time lucky. Here’s hoping.
