The Lark Ascending by Vaughn Williams is one of my absolute favourite classical pieces. I have an enduring and clear memory of astounding my middle school teacher by correctly identifying the skylark from a recording of different birdsongs. We lived in a little village and would go for long walks where Mum would draw out attention to the skylarks and we’d try to spot them in the sky 💛
They are always a welcome accompaniment to a long walk. On stretches of the South Downs near here they can be a constant soundtrack. Good on your mum for drawing your attention. 🙂

Lovely. I think they rather like that tawny, tufty grassland you find around links courses. Less so the manicured greens. ⛳️
